Different Broom Types Work Best For Different Applications.

Different broom types work best for different applications.
  • Angle brooms work best for snow removal
  • Hopper brooms are great for cleanup
  • Landscapers tend to prefer hopper and push brooms, particularly when sweeping near buildings
  • Road crews tend to prefer angle and hopper brooms
  • Groundskeepers find uses for all three but rely on hoppers for cleanup
  • When choosing the right sweeper attachment for your skid steer, look carefully at the requirements and specs for both, as well as your project needs. Basic tips include:

  • A dual motor angle broom requires 18 to 36 gpm (gallons per minute)
  • A hopper broom requires 15 to 25 gpm; size according to the width of your skid steer
  • A single motor angle broom attachment needs a skid steer with 8 to 25 gpm
Operating the broom at a 30-degree angle requires a broom width wider than the path
Push brooms require 3 gpm minimum; size according to the width of your skid steer
Sizing may seem tricky but look for a broom width comparable to the width of your skid steer. If the sweeper attachment is wider than the loader's tires or tracks, you restrict access. However, if it's narrower than the loader, you get less coverage. This is particularly true with angle brooms, which cover less area while the unit moves forward.
